We are pleased to announce that ABB Turbochargers will be joining us at All-Energy in Glasgow.
We spoke to ABB to find out more about the latest developments in turbocharging technology, and see what will be in store for them at our event coming up in May.

Can you provide an example of how your products can improve efficiency in the renewable energy sector?
Recently, ABB overhauled two VTR turbochargers for Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) which were installed at the Battery Point Power Station in 1957. These Turbochargers play a vital part in supporting Battery Point by providing power to the region.
Battery Point power station plays an important role in the Western Isles, off the coast of Scotland. The diesel turbine power plant generates approximately 23MW of energy to fulfil the electricity demands for the isles of Lewis and Harris.
The maintenance has achieved more than simply extending the lifespan of the turbochargers. Cleaning carbon deposits from the Turbocharger turbine blades and nozzle rings has helped to maintain the excellent burn efficiency ratio of each unit. A direct result of the service includes improved fuel consumption, higher efficiency and lower running costs. The overhauled VTR Turbochargers also reduce exhaust gas temperatures and emissions, crucial for helping SSEN meet their carbon reduction obligations.
The decision to use ABB for the maintenance of the VTR turbochargers saved millions of pounds over the lifetime of Battery Point power station without the need for lengthy recertification processes. This, of course, helped to ensure that the people of Lewis and Harris have an electricity source they can rely on.
