In order to provide "end-to-end" design and construction services to the UK offshore wind industry, Aker Solutions and the construction firm Balfour Beatty have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
The companies' complementary expertise, resources, and experience will be integrated in the partnership's concrete floating and gravity-based projects to provide an all-encompassing solution. While Aker Solutions has a "long history" of providing concrete structures for coastal settings globally, Balfour Beatty has an "extensive track record" of carrying out complicated civil engineering works for challenging infrastructure and energy projects across the UK.
According to Stephen Tarr, CEO of Balfour Beatty's Major Projects division, the collaboration with Aker Solutions is a response to the demand for more offshore generation.
Offshore wind is essential to boosting the usage of renewable energy, which is necessary to ensuring energy security and lowering carbon emissions, according to Jason Brown, Head of Renewables at Aker Solutions in the UK. He said that the only way they could meet the ambitious 50 GW objective for the UK's offshore wind deployment in the North Sea was by going farther out to sea in deeper seas.
