The Irish government grants leases to seven offshore wind farms

Energy Minister Eamon Ryan's news about signing the Marine Area Consents was well-received by Wind Energy Ireland CEO Noel Cunniffe (MACs). Seven phase one offshore wind plants aiming for completion by 2030 have obtained leases from the Irish government.

SSE Renewables' 800MW Arklow Bank 2 and EDF Renewables and Fred Olsen Seawind's 1.5GW Codling, both off the coast of County Wicklow, are among the projects. The MACs provide the phase one developers exclusive access to the seabed, allowing them to finish their last environmental assessments and get planning approval from An Bord Pleanála in the first half of 2023.

Additionally, bids from developers are anticipated for the projects in the upcoming ORESS-1 offshore wind auction, which will be the first of its kind.
