Recently, PKN Orlen and Northland Power's 1.2GW Baltic Power Offshore Wind project in Poland granted Vestas preferred supplier designation. A 15-year service and maintenance contract is a part of the arrangement. In Szczecin, Poland, close to the Baltic Sea, Vestas intends to build a new assembly facility where nacelles and hubs for its V236-15.0MW flagship offshore wind turbine will be put together.

Offshore wind is on a huge growth trajectory, according to Vestas COO Tommy Rahbek Nielsen, and the company plans to take the lead in creating a sustainable supply chain that can provide the required scale. He noted that by utilising Vestas' knowledge and experience, the new factory will generate thousands of indirect jobs in the Szczecin region in addition to hundreds of direct ones.

The recent announcements of the Baltic Power Offshore Wind Project and the introduction of a new factory are clear evidence of the value that the wind sector brings, said Vestas Northern & Central Europe President Nils de Baar.
